Why Use the Mobile App?

The PDFinator web app already works beautifully in any mobile browser, but the native Android app takes the experience to another level. The biggest advantage is seamless integration with the Android share sheet - whenever you receive a PDF via email, messaging apps, cloud storage or any other app, you can send it straight to PDFinator with a single tap. No need to download the file first, open a browser, find the website and re-upload it. The app appears exactly where you expect it, right next to your other tools.

Offline support is the second big reason many users prefer the app. Once installed, PDFinator does not need an internet connection to do its job. You can split a scanned contract on a train, merge receipts on a plane, or remove pages from a report in a basement meeting room with no reception. The app keeps all its processing logic on your device, so airplane mode has zero impact on functionality.

Performance is another clear win. Native Android code handles large files more efficiently than a browser tab - memory is managed better, file reads go through the native file system instead of the browser sandbox, and the app is free to use more of your device's CPU and RAM when crunching through big documents. If you regularly work with hundred-megabyte PDFs, the app will feel noticeably snappier.

Small quality-of-life touches round out the experience. You get notifications when long operations finish, settings like preferred language and default theme persist across sessions, and a home screen icon gets you into the app in one tap. Combined, these little improvements make the mobile app the ideal choice if PDFinator is part of your daily workflow.

Features Available in the App

The Android app ships with the complete PDFinator toolkit plus a handful of mobile-only conveniences:

Remove PDF Pages

Delete unwanted pages from any PDF. Pick them from visual thumbnails or type ranges like 1, 3, 5-8 directly.

Split PDF Files

Break a large PDF into individual pages or extract a specific range into a new document.

Merge Multiple PDFs

Combine any number of PDFs into one document. Reorder them with drag-and-drop before merging.

Password-protected PDFs

Open and edit encrypted PDFs by providing the password. Nothing leaves the device.

Android Share Sheet

Send PDFs to PDFinator from Gmail, Drive, WhatsApp or any other app with one tap.

Offline Operation

No internet required after install. Every operation happens locally on your phone.

Multiple Languages

The same 12 languages as the web app: Polish, English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Russian and Korean.

Dark / Light Theme

Match your system appearance or pick one manually. Your choice is remembered between launches.

How to Install

Installing PDFinator on your Android device takes less than a minute:

Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone or tablet. It comes pre-installed on virtually every Android device.

Search for "PDFinator" in the search bar, or simply tap the green "Get it on Google Play" button above to jump straight to the listing.

Tap Install and wait a few seconds for the download to finish. Open the app and you are ready to work with PDFs.

After the first launch you may want to pick your preferred language and theme in the settings screen. Both choices are saved automatically for next time.

App vs Web - What's the Difference?

PDFinator comes in two flavours - the website you are reading now and the native Android app. Both are completely free, both process files locally without ever uploading them to a server, and both support the same set of PDF operations. So how should you choose?

Web Version

  • No install needed - works from any modern browser
  • Available on every platform: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, ChromeOS
  • Always the latest version - no updates to worry about
  • Nothing to uninstall afterwards
  • Ideal for occasional use or one-off jobs

Mobile App

  • Better performance with large files
  • Full offline support - works with no internet
  • Integrates with the Android share sheet
  • Home screen icon for one-tap access
  • Native file picker and notifications

If you edit PDFs on your phone regularly, the app is the obvious pick. If you are on a desktop or only need PDFinator once in a while, the web version does everything you need with zero friction. Both are built on the same privacy-first philosophy - your files are yours and stay on your device.

Privacy in the Mobile App

The Android app follows the exact same privacy rules as the website. Every page you remove, every PDF you split, every document you merge is processed entirely on your device. No files are uploaded anywhere. There is no cloud processing, no server-side step, no "just temporarily" storage. The bytes of your PDF never leave your phone.

We do not require an account. There is no sign-up, no login, no email address to collect. You open the app and it works. There is also no tracking of what kind of documents you process - PDFinator has no way of knowing whether you merged invoices, split a novel or removed pages from medical records, because none of that information is ever transmitted anywhere.

The only data we collect is anonymous Firebase Analytics usage signals: how often each feature is opened, which language the app runs in, approximate app stability and crash-free sessions. These signals help us decide which features deserve more polish. They contain no file names, no file contents, no personal identifiers. You can disable them entirely in the app settings if you prefer.

The app requests a single Android permission: access to storage so it can read the PDFs you choose from your device and save the resulting files back. This is the standard file access pattern used by every Android file editor. On newer Android versions the app uses the scoped Storage Access Framework, so you explicitly pick each file - PDFinator cannot silently scan your storage in the background.

System Requirements

  • Android 7.0 (Nougat) or higher
  • Around 20 MB of free storage for the app itself
  • Works on both phones and tablets, any screen size
  • Internet only required to download the app - not for daily use
  • Sufficient free RAM to open your PDFs (depends on file size)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the app really free?

Yes. The app is completely free to download and use, forever. It is ad-supported with non-intrusive banner advertising that keeps development going. There are no hidden paywalls, no premium tier, no trial period.

Does it work offline?

Fully. Once installed, all PDF operations run locally on your device. You can disconnect from the internet or enable airplane mode and the app will keep working exactly the same.

Will my files be uploaded anywhere?

Never. All processing happens on your Android device. PDFinator does not upload documents to any server and has no cloud component. Your files stay yours.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. An iOS version is on the roadmap and we plan to publish it in the future. In the meantime iPhone users can use the web app at pdfinator.pages.dev - it works great on iOS Safari.

Why does the app need storage permission?

To read the PDF files you want to edit and to save the resulting files back to your device. Storage access is the only permission the app requests and it is used exclusively for that purpose.

How often is the app updated?

We ship regular updates with bug fixes, new translations and additional PDF tools. Google Play will update the app automatically if you have automatic updates enabled for your account.

Feedback and Support

PDFinator gets better thanks to user feedback. If the app helped you save time, please take a moment to rate it on Google Play - ratings directly affect how visible the app is to other users who might find it useful.

We read every message and we are particularly interested in hearing about PDFs that do not behave the way you expected - unusual encryption, obscure page sizes, broken metadata. The more edge cases we collect, the more robust the app becomes for everyone.
